Every Friday we share our favourite finds from the week…

  • It seems Winter has finally arrived, best we stay indoors!   For those of you snowed in with a house full of children, try out these DIY games to ease the cabin fever.
  • Who would have thought that London could get cold enough to have a Polar Bear visit?  Well that’s what I thought before reading that this polar bear is animated to promote a new crime drama and not the real deal…I am still gutted that I didn’t get to see this guy in real life though.
  • The best thing to do to shake off the winter blues and to reward all you hard gym efforts would be to try some of these great dessert recipes from all the biggest chocolate brands.
  • You may have noticed, but I am looking forward to spring and summer already, lets hope the plans to this open air swimming pool on the Thames get accepted and it gets built before the summer!
  • It’s Superbowl time, for most its about the sport…for us it’s the commercials.  The Dorito time machine advert is one of my favourites from last years Superbowl, looking forward to seeing all the best of 2015.

Keep warm, safe and happy this chilly weekend…I will be peeping out of the window every 5 minutes hoping for snow!

Behind the Scenes 6

Behind the Scenes 6

It’s been a little while since I shared some behind the scenes fun. The last month has consisted mainly of too much celebrating (I mean who has a birthday in January – seriously!) and lots of admin, I guess January is the month to get ahead before things start getting really busy again! Before I jump into what’s been happening in the new year a quick recap.
Behind the Scenes: Dec-JanBefore all our friends jetted off to see family and friends over the holidays we thought we’d have a little gathering which we’ve dubbed Christmates,  think it will become a new tradition! I was in charge of table settings, I was sewing furiously the morning of to finish my napkins and table runners, 14 guests in total – that’s a lot of napkins! I kept it simple with Ibex branches, cotton balls and kale, I even used some of our bowls, coasters and salt cellars (as vases) it’s handy having a homewares store!). Vicky and I have got good use out of our napkins and runners since then!
Behind the Scenes: Dec-JanBetween Christmas, New Years and a couple of birthdays there have been lots of presents, including my new glass Kitchen aid bowl, can’t wait to give it a spin, and many, many fun celebrations. Gary and I even went to our first Ice-hockey match, how exciting! It was so much fun. To counter all the festivities, Vicky and I have started off the new year like many others…in the gym, we’ve been quite dedicated with 4-6 visits a week! Hope we can keep it up!
Behind the Scenes: Dec-Jan I’ve finally got started on the dining room table I’ve been talking about building for months, it’s coming along nicely, look out for the DIY coming shortly. And in the office? Spreadsheets (boring) and setting up our new Not on the High Street shop. We’ve also been planning ahead for Valentines, Easter and so on, expect more fun DIY’s, delicious recipes and some new products on our shop, coming soon!
Behind the Scenes: Dec-JanHop you’ve all had a productive January!

Every Friday we share our favourite finds from the week…

  • I am sure most of you have seen this video of the officer lip syncing to Taylor Swifts song, if you haven’t check it out now…Love a good lip syncing session!
  • I am always pottering around the house cleaning and rearranging in my spare time, last weekend I did a spring clean (in the middle of winter) and now the house seems a bit bare.  I have thought of displaying dried flowers around my house and also love the idea of this gorgeous floral wreath outside the front door (who said spring can’t be forever?).
  • The new Taken movie is finally out, I have heard mixed thoughts on the movie but am looking forward to the next Taken as seen on Jimmy Kimmel!
  • We are having a Burns night supper tonight as you may have seen in Abi’s previous post, if you are looking for places to celebrate, Conde Nast have a great list of places around London to celebrate Burns Night.
  • Today I’m ending off with this brilliant video from Maroon 5, they crashed as many wedding as possible in LA in one day to create this video…Love it!

Have a lovely weekend and let those hot toddies warm you up!

Tattie Scones

Tattie Scones

Our group of friends has recently started the tradition of celebrating Burn’s night (any excuse for a party). This year we are going full out Scottish with haggis (I’ve never had it!), whisky cocktails and we’re even reciting our favourite Robert Burn’s poems (although, I hope that part was a joke cause I don’t actually know any!). I was given the job of bringing the tatties and neeps so I decided to make tattie scones, it was my first experience and I have to say they were so yummy and really easy to make!
Tattie Scones RecipeI used a recipe from one of my favourite recipe books, Three Sisters Bake. It’s written by, you guessed it, 3 sisters who own an adorable cafe in Scotland. As usual I put my own spin on the recipe and added a few extra ingredients.
Ingredients
500g potatoes
large knob of butter
100g flour
½ tsp baking powder
oil (rapeseed or olive will do)
2 garlic cloves and 1 stalk of rosemary (optional)
Tattie Scones RecipePeel and chop the potatoes into quarters, boil for around 15min, or until soft. I tossed the garlic cloves in along with the potatoes. If adding rosemary, chop it up really finely and throw in a bowl along with the flour and baking powder, add the drained potatoes once they’ve cooled a little.
Tattie Scones RecipeMash everything up, I found it easiest to use a fork rather than a potato masher. When it all starts coming together tip the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out until till it’s about 1.5cm thick. slice into any shape you like, you could even use a cookie cutter if you’d like them nice and round.
Heat the oil in a shallow pan and fry the scones for about 2 min on each side or until they are beautifully golden.
Tattie Scones RecipeWe’ll be enjoying our tattie scones with a spot of haggis but they were absolutely delicious topped with a poached egg – a perfect weekend breakfast!
How will you be celebrating Burn’s night this year?

Every Friday we share our favourite finds from the week…

  • I’m still on a slight detox, luckily the worlds first chip sandwich shop is over in Ireland…can’t beat a crisp sarnie!
  • From a crisp sandwich shop to a cereal shop opening up their second store in Camden, I’m not one for cereal in the morning but if I was, I would definitely be popping into this shop!
  • I cam across this song this week, sung by two friends. I’m not the biggest fan of Taylor Swift but Blank Space definitely did her songs justice in a Taylor Swift mashup!
  • Who hasn’t cracked a screen on their phone before?  With the new phone that Google are looking to launch, you can swap your screen as well as customize your whole phone…whenever you want.
  • 2014 was a great year for music, this couple took all the greatest hits and turned it into a medley of their own with the  Greatest hits of 2014 by Us the Duo.

That’s all for this week, keep warm and safe until next week…Happy Friday!
