Summer Holiday Essentials

Summer Holiday Essentials

I’m jetting off on a summer holiday on Wednesday, 10 blissful days on the Greek Islands and leaving Vicky to man the fort. I think summer officially arrives here in the UK on the day we leave, temps of 33 on Wednesday, WHAT!! Here is what’s on my list for my getaway, the holiday essentials.
Summer Holiday Wishlist1 – I have been eyeing this necklace for months, it would make the perfect date night accessory with a little black dress on a warm summer evening.
2 – This breezy dress just screams holiday!
3 – You can never enough pairs of sunnies, I love this light blue pair from Anthropologie.
4 – Another fun accessory for date night, a tropical clutch!
5 – The perfect bag for toting around all your beach essentials.
6 – I was a huge Gilmore Girls fan growing up so when I heard Lauren Graham had written a novel I had to have it. Looks like it’s going to be a fun summer read.
7 – Every girl needs a wide brimmed hat to hide away from the sun under, I love this bright ombre yellow one.
8 – These shoes match the tropical clutch perfectly and I found them totally by accident! Aren’t the cute!
9 – Make sure a mani pedi is on your to-do list before jetting off, I love all the new colours from Essie.
10 – Full swimsuits are seriously in this year, there are so many gorgeous options!

Every Friday we share our favourite finds from the week…

  • You should be smiling because it is Friday but if you are not, this time lapse of these two puppies running for their food every week will definitely put a smile on your face!
  • Who doesn’t love Lego (apart from the mom’s having to pick the pieces up constantly), this French artist has found his inner child and placed Lego mini figures in funny situations, brilliant!
  • If only I had a large weeping willow tree in my garden, I would be the first to get into making this tree swing DIY for all to enjoy…Abi?
  • I have been redecorating my bedroom for a while now and have just recently bought a gorgeous mason jar bedside lamp, I wonder if it is too late to trade it in to pre order a Flyte (a levitating light).
  • If you’re heading to any weddings this weekend, please make sure your children do not upstage the bride, the way these two did ;)

That’s all for today, have a super weekend.

Every Friday we share our favourite finds from the week…

  • The best time of the year for me is most definitely wedding and festival season, at the moment I am loving all the gorgeous fresh flower crowns, absolutely gorgeous!
  • Social media never ceases to amaze me, this Lego cake went viral last week and the family that baked it, had to release a statement to let everyone know that they are not a business and cannot accept any orders after tons of orders and requests started flooding in.
  • I don’t mind graffiti as long as it is done right, this French graffiti artist has been livening up the streets with his favourite cartoon characters, wonderful!
  • Asparagus season, another reason to love the summer!  I am a big fan of asparagus and looking forward to trying out a couple of these fabulous recipes.
  • Fathers day on Sunday, unfortunately my dad lives overseas but I do get to see him for 6 week next month.  This Fathers day video is completely heart warming, you may need a couple of tissues close by.
  • For all the Harry potter fans, we had a good laugh at  Jimmy Fallon and Alan Rickman interviewing with helium.

Happy Fathers day to all the fathers and happy weekend to the rest of us.

The Best Spring Salad

The Best Spring Salad

Vicky and I were at the garden centre last week, we stopped off for lunch and had the most delicious spring salad ever. It was really simple, just green beans, asparagus and pine nuts but I thought, as good as it was I bet I could make it better with some added ingredients. So here it is, a recipe for the greenest salad you’ve ever had that tastes like spring in a bowl!
Delcicious Spring SaladBefore I get stuck into the recipe I am just going to go off on a tangent and talk about pea shoots for a second. I did not know they existed before this spring, I had them on my plate in a restaurant a few weeks ago and I was amazed, they are so yummy and fresh tasting, there is no way  to describe them other than the taste of spring! So if you see them in the shops, snatch them up, I have a feeling they won’t be on the shelves for very long. Ok, back to the recipe that gives new meaning to the term green salad.
Ingredients
Any greens you like, especially ones that are in season, I used: Asparagus, Broccoli, sugar snaps, fresh peas, spring onion, pea shoots
1 avocado
a large handful of pine nuts
Dressing
juice of ½ a lemon
good glug of olive oil
1 tsp dijon mustard
salt & pepper
Delicious Spring SaladLightly toast the pine nuts and set aside. Finely slice the spring onion. Chop the broccoli and asparagus into bite sized pieces and gently fry in a little olive oil until just tender. Whisk all the ingredients for the dressing together. Now it’s time to plate it up, start with your pea shoots, scatter your broccoli and asparagus on top and sprinkle over the spring onion and pine nuts. Lastly scoop out big chunks of avo with a teaspoon straight into the salad.
Delicious Spring SaladNow all that’s left to do is dress it, toss it gently and tuck in! We had ours with leftover roast chicken and it was a treat!

Every Friday we share our favourite finds from the week…

  • What do I love more than a good party, is great party décor! Oh happy Day have a fantastic DIY this week on beautiful watercolour fans, I can’t wait to try it out.
  • I am always looking for creative new hairstyles and easy updo’s for my clients to achieve, Design Love Fest have posted 7 fabulous hair up styles, just in time for wedding season!  Floral arrangements in hair are extremely popular at the moment and absolutely gorgeous.
  • Just when you think you have seen it all…The Pooh Stick Championships come along.  Apparently Winnie The Pooh accidentally invented this game when he tripped over and dropped a fir cone into the river, even though Pooh struggled with maths, he realised that the bigger cones would beat the smaller cones, and so the competition was born in Oxfordshire.
  • I am no criminal, but according to this article I am sure we have all broken a few of these hilariously ridiculous British Laws, I seem to have broken majority of them.
  • I haven’t had much time to watch Game of Thrones recently but am still completely addicted, any other Game of Thrones fan will love this video of three of the best Jon Snow impersonators, showing their talents off to Jon Snow himself.

Have a super weekend everyone, make sure you don’t fly any kites in public spaces…it is against the law!
